Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – Ruth Stowe, representing the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union (KCCU), won the SVG National Cooperate Public Speaking Championship tonight (June 27).
Stowe’s main speech was on the topic: “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays a vital role in SVG”. She argued in the negative, saying that “people should refrain from getting too caught up in what CSR embodies in theory because in practicality, the vitality anticipated falls short”.
Her prizes for winning include EC$3,000, a special package from FLOW, and a fruit basket, among other things, the organizers say.
Ms. Aviar Charles, who represented the National Insurance Services (NIS), was second place winner of the prepared speech segment of the competition.
Charles won $2,000 and a special package from FLOW.
Nicolette Nichols of the Treasury Department won third place in the prepared speech competition and was awarded EC$1,000 and a special package from FLOW, the organizers say.
All of the finalists gave a speech on the same topic. The topic was also used in the semi-finals but the finalists were challenged to bring new arguments.
