Nov 5 Snap elections called in St. Vincent

Kingstown, St. Vincent (ONE NEWS SVG) – St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has sent shock waves throughout the nation by calling general elections one month earlier than anticipated.

The last three general elections called by Dr. Gonsalves were held in the month of December.

But, tonight (October 8), Dr. Gonsalves announced the next election date as November 5, 2020.

Parliament will be dissolved tomorrow, October 9, 2020 and nomination day will be October 20, 2020.

The Gonsalves-led ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) will be seeking an historic fifth consecutive term in office, while the opposition New Democractic Party (NDP) will be seeking to return to power after nearly 20 years in opposition.

Both major parties are fielding 15 candidates.

The SVG Green Party is expected to field at least two candidates in the elections.

Dr. Gonsalves said the electoral machinery is ready.
