Grenadians have elected a new prime minister.

The preliminary results of the June 23 general election in Grenada show that 44-year-old attorney Dickon Mitchel is set to become the next prime minister of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

According to the preliminary results, the Dickon Mitchell-led National Democratic Congress – NDC has won nine (9) of the 15 electoral seats, leaving the Dr. Keith Mitchell-led New National Party – NNP with six (6) seats.

The win is unprecedented for a political first-timer who took over leadership of the NDC in 2021, less than a year ago.

It also comes after two consecutive 15-0 defeats for the NDC in the 2013 and 2018 general elections.

Those two elections were won by the Keith Mitchell-led New National Party – NNP.
