Fireman’s song goes into 2023 Soca Monarch with 54% popularity – One News Poll indicates

If a recent popularity poll conducted on social media by One News St. Vincent gives any indication of the popularity of songs entering the 2023 Soca Monarch competition, Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper’s “Madness” is leading by 54 percent.

The National Soca Monarch Competition is scheduled for tonight at Victoria Park.

The poll published on Tuesday asked followers who they think would walk away with the 2023 Soca Monarch title if the competition was based on the popularity of songs.

Up to press time, over two thousand people had voted in the poll published on Tuesday.

Fireman led the way with 1,099 votes or 54 percent of the vote. The song polled for him is “Madness”.

Ishatta DaSilva came in second with 473 votes or 23 percent of the vote. The song polled for him is “Long fi see town”.

Esron ‘Esron Spielbery came third in the poll with 252 votes or 12 percent of the vote. The song polled for him is called – “Headways”.

Other polled singers and songs included Zimhory ‘Chazal’ Joseph – with “Carnival”, Kemmy Christopher with – “Spirit of Carnival”, and Kertis ‘Gully’ Marshall with – Why de Cat In D Rain,” among others.

Thirteen (13) contenders are scheduled to come up against reigning Soca Monarch – Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper for the crown.

They are:

3. Omarion ‘Marlo Benn’ Benn – Horn me

6. Keith Currency – Rum over people 

7. Zimbory ‘Ghaza’ Joseph – Carnival 

8. Kertis ‘Gully’ Marshall – Why de cat in the rain 

9. Javid ‘Jay-R’ Rouse – Wild 

10. Esron ‘Esron Spielbery – Headways
