Three young people will take up important positions in St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ government.
At a press conference today (July 28) at Cabinet Room, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves announced that a new, young Senator will be appointed, a new and young Chairman of the National Reparations Committee, and a new, young chairman of a new prime-ministerial advisory council.
The new senator will be 30-year-old lawyer – Ms. Shackell Bobb who hails from the Marriaqua Valley.
According to Dr. Gonsalves, she will replace Mr. Rochard Ballah who will demit office by the end of August.
The new senator – Ms. Bobb will also be a Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and will be responsible for connecting that office with the happenings of a new Prime-Ministerial Advisory Council on Youth.
Mr. Ballah will take up the post – Director of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office, a post previously held by Mr. Elson Crick.
The next announcement was that Mr. Anson Latchman, a 27-year-old budget analyst , a national cricketer, and a former national scholar.
The 27-year-old has been tipped to be the Chairman of a newly Cabinet- sanctioned Prime-Ministerial Advisory Council on Youth.
Dr. Gonsalves said the other persons in the roughly 20-member committee will be named at the launch of the committee in late August.
The committee that will attract heads from across several sectors will advise on matters relating to government policy in relation to youth.
It is geared for persons up to 35 years of age.
The third announcement was that Mr. Adrian Odle, a lawyer and lecturer will head the country’s National Reparations Committee (soon to be upgraded to the National Reparations Commission).
Mr. Odle, 28, will lead the committee started in 2013 to lead the government’s efforts and the region’s efforts towards securing reparatory justice for the Atlantic slave trade, slavery, and native genocide.
Other announcements are expected soon on youth in governance in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
