Lawyer Shackell Bobb is now the youngest addition to the current Cabinet of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Ms. Bobb, 30, was sworn in as a Senator and Parliamentary Secretary today (August 15) at a ceremony at Government House.

She took the Oath of Allegiance, the Oath of Office, and the Oath of Secrecy.

As a Parliamentary Secretary, she will provide oversight to the newly created Prime-ministerial Advisory Council on Youth.

According to the Agency for Public Information – API, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said the ceremony is especially significant since Bobb comes from humble beginnings and is a child of the Government’s education revolution.

The prime minister said Shackelle Bobb “was about 7 years old… when I became Prime Minister; she is now going to sit at the
table of governance to make decisions with that same Prime Minister … It’s amazing, it’s historic!.”

According to the API, Ms. Bobb worked with number of legal firms and was Legal Officer at the Financial Services Authority before being sworn in as Senator.

Dr. Gonsalves said Bobb is a well-rounded young woman who has had extensive legal experience, despite her age and would no doubt serve this country well in her new capacity, the API reported.

Bobb joins newly appointed senator, 33-year-old Benarva Browne who was appointed less than a month ago and the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Keisal Peters, appointed a year ago. Bobb will assume Parliamentary responsibilities in the Office of the Prime Minister, the API said.

Shackell Bobb replaces Mr. Rochard Ballah who demitted office and will assume the position of Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, the API said.
