The Argyle International Airport – AIA launched its inaugural summer program on Monday, August 28, 2023.
The program, the brainchild of the airport’s Customer Service Officer – Ms. Arlette Miller is being spearheaded by the Customer Service Department.
It caters to children of members of staff at the AIA. There are 31 participants from ages 5 – 12 years. There are two 14-year-olds in that number to help with crowd control.
The programme is being held under the theme: “Reconnect – Recommit – Re-energize”.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, Ms. Miller said the programme aims to help children of AIA workers understand what their parents do at work and to inspire the children to consider careers in the field of aviation.
During the course of the week, the students will be exposed to a number of educational activities and they will also learn about aviation and the functioning of an international airport.
So far, they have toured the airport’s facilities including getting a first-hand view into the life of an aviation engineer at the Mustique Airways Hangar.
Engineers at the Mustique Airways Hangar Raymend and Kristina Palmer gave the students insight into what happens in the hangar.
The programme will not be held today (Wednesday) as this is the airport’s business day, but it will continue on Thursday with fun and educational activities.
A closing ceremony will be held on Friday.
Some of the other activities students will engage in include revision for school, games and movie time, dental and personal hygiene sessions, and understanding the work of each department at the airport.
