The Ministry of National Mobilisation Social Development, Family, Gender Affairs, Youth, Housing, and Informal Human Settlement has eight (8) new houses under construction in Cumberland.
According to a press release yesterday, (September 12th), the Ministry of Housing said, these houses are part of the government’s ongoing program to rebuild houses for the people of North Leeward who lost their homes to the volcanic eruption of 2021.
The Minister of Housing, Hon. Dr. Orando Brewster says the government is seeking to add more houses to this project.
The project provides shelter for those who lost their homes, and it also provides jobs and other economic activity in the community, said the Parliamentary Representative for North Leeward.
Twenty-one (21) prefabricated houses were bought by the Government of St Vincent
and the Grenadines from the Government of Guyana and are here and will be distributed over time, stated the press release.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said, six (6) of the houses will go to North Leeward, fifteen (15) in North Central Windward, and another six (6) in North Windward.
