Rhobyn and Leah Barnabe represented the Caribbean region last week at the 50th annual Commonwealth Youth Awards.
The sisters were invited by the Commonwealth secretariat to perform at the event which took place at St. James’ Palace in London.
The pair sang an original song, written by Rhobyn Barnabe entitled ‘Level Up’, which commemorated this year’s theme; “Aim Higher: Delivering More of Young People in the Commonwealth.”

In an interview with Reporter Havlyn Gill, The sisters stated that they were honoured to have received such a great opportunity and that they are inspired by the great work being done by young people across the Commonwealth.
“Being a Youth advocate myself, I am just truly inspired by all of the young people I see putting in the work to make the world a better place. It’s honestly heartwarming,” Rhobyn said.
Rhobyn’s journey as a change-maker began when she was selected to represent SVG as the 2018 Youth Ambassador to the United States. In November of that year, she founded the A Change Through Theatre (ACTT) Initiative which was a non-profit project geared towards raising awareness for mental health and decreasing the stigma surrounding mental illness in among youth in SVG. Now at 21, she is completing her final year of studies at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in ‘International Development and Global Politics’. When she is not actively shaping ideas to transform the world, you can find her captivating audiences with her voice. Rhobyn has garnered numerous local and regional awards for her contributions to performing arts, making her an inspiring figure in her community.
Leah Barnabe is a 19-year-old talent who is no stranger to the music scene. In 2021, Leah made waves with the release of her debut single “Voices”, collaborating with the internationally renowned Melisizwe brothers. This release captured thousands of views on YouTube, demonstrating Leah’s innate ability to touch hearts and souls with her music. Like her sister, Leah is driven by a deep passion and she aspires to use her voice to leave a lasting positive impact on our world.
Today, Rhobyn and Leah Barnabe are symbols of the incredible potential that young people hold. It is their goal to be representations of the power of young voices, creativity, and the ability to effect meaningful change in our global community.
