After attaining his Ph.D. in Politics in 2021 from Queens’ University in Belfast, Ireland, Dr. Emanuel Quashie continued writing and researching.

Dr. Quashie has so far made a unique contribution to the scholarship on terrorism and security in the Caribbean, and his seminal work is being read at some of the leading universities in the world.

In September 2023, his book entitled: Stakeholders of Terrorism and the Caribbean made it to the libraries of Oxford University in the UK, and Harvard and Yale Universities in the US, three of the top universities in the world.

The book was published this year by the well-established academic publisher – Palgrave Macmillan.

The book has been endorsed by historian, distinguished scholar, and world-renowned expert on terrorism, Professor Richard English who, in 2018, was awarded a CBE for services to the understanding of modern-day terrorism and political history.

According to the preface of the book, “it offers the Stakeholders of Terrorism concept with a view to more fully understanding the Caribbean’s preparedness for and vulnerability to terrorism”.

The research presented in the short case study is expected to be of importance to interests in North and Central America given their proximity to the Caribbean and given the north-south relations underpinned by frequent trade in goods and ideas, travel, and economic and cultural relations.

In addition to the book, Dr. Quashie who currently lectures several graduate and undergraduate courses at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, has written several papers.

One such paper is “The War on Terror in the Caribbean” which was published this year. Another journal article published by Dr. Quashie is “Rethinking the Caribbean Basin Initiative: A case study of US foreign policy towards the Caribbean”.

Each publication provides seminal research on security issues and security policy issues in the Anglophone Caribbean and can guide policymakers on security matters.

According to his LinkedIn, Dr. Emanuel Patrick Quashie is a Full-Time Lecturer in the Department of Government at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. He holds a BSc in International Relations (First Class Honors), an MSc in Government specializing in International Relations (Distinction) from the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, and a Ph.D. in Politics (with no corrections) from the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and Politics at Queen’s University Belfast.
