A Vincentian who now resides in St. Kitts and Nevis is seeking the support of the Vincentian public as he recovers from a life-changing accident that has affected his brain, hands, legs, and other parts of his body.
Mr. Drake Baptiste, 28, originally from Sandy Bay, St. Vincent, was involved in a vehicle accident on October 7th, at around 2 a.m., in Nevis, leaving him with life-changing health issues.
“My life took an unexpected turn. I was involved in a severe car accident in Nevis that left me with injuries to my brain, lungs, wrist, and both legs. This incident has not only altered the course of my life but also placed a significant financial burden on me,” a GoFundMe page created for him by Shondria Wilson says.
One News SVG was able to contact Mr. Baptiste on October 30, and he is at home, unable to walk. “I have to be in bed at all times,” he told One News SVG via WhatsApp.
Steel has been placed in his legs and his hands, he said.
He said the doctors were saying the bleeding in his brain had stopped, which he says is some good news.
His recovery will take months.
He is urging his fellow Vincentians to contribute to the GoFundMe to help him cover some of his medical bills. He is trying to raise USD $28,000 to cover the medical bills and treatment needed for recovery.
“The medical bills for my treatment are substantial, and I am reaching out to you for support during this challenging time. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference in my journey to recovery,” the page says.
The page says: “Your kindness will not only help cover the extensive medical expenses but also provide me with hope and strength as I work towards regaining my health and independence.”
“Please consider contributing and sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family. Your support means the world to me, and I am incredibly grateful for your generosity,” the account states.
“Thank you for being a part of my recovery journey. With heartfelt gratitude,
Drake Baptiste & Shondria Wilson,” the account added.
