Vincentian Breya John, 25, is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2023 for the University of the West Indies Global Campus.

She will deliver the valedictory address at the graduation ceremony scheduled for November 11, 2023.

Ms. John attended the Kingstown Anglican School. She is also an alumna of the St. Vincent Girls’ High School.

According to the UWI Global Campus website, Ms. John is an Early Childhood Practitioner from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who will be graduating with First Class Honours from the Bachelor of Education Early Childhood Development and Family Studies programme.

“She is currently employed by the Ministry of Education of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a Primary School Educator. As is customary, Ms John will deliver the Valedictory Speech on behalf of her fellow graduates from across the Region,” the UWI Global Campus said on its website.

“This Graduation Ceremony will mark the first under the new UWI Global brand and will see approximately 547 Graduands (112 postgraduates and 435 undergraduates) officially graduating with Doctorates, Master’s, Bachelor’s, and Associate degrees, as well as Certificates and Diplomas in several subject areas,” the UWI Global Campus stated.

One News SVG contacted Ms. John today (November 1). She said she was elated about the selection.

When asked about advice she has for people thinking about studying online, she said:

“Studying online is no easy task, especially for those working full-time. However, it is important to remember that your future success will be the result of the sacrifices you make now. I believe that the person you are destined to become is the person whom you decide to be in the moments that matter.”

“In your journey of becoming a reflective-reflexive practitioner, put God first, find your tribe and work collaboratively, be creative, and think critically,” she said.

“Never let your circumstances deter you from believing in yourself and doing your best…fight on and persevere!” she added.

The last Vincentian to have been a UWI valedictorian was Demion McTair who represented the graduating class of 2020 at the UWI Mona Campus for the Faculties of Humanities and Education, Science and Technology, and the Institute of Gender and Development Studies.
