Rillan Hill residents frustrated with bad road that has left people hospitalized

Some residents of the South Leeward community of Rillan Hill have expressed frustration over the condition of a pathway that has left some people hospitalized.

The footpath in the area called ‘Village’ is in a deplorable condition, and residents have to jump over natural gutters and sometimes vastly overgrown bushes.

One resident who wished to remain anonymous told One News SVG that the track is especially problematic when it rains.

The Rillan Hill resident says they sometimes “come home with muddy clothes and shoes, slipping and falling, damaging ourselves”.

The resident says at least two people have been hospitalized over the years after suffering damaged legs from slipping and falling off sharp rocks while trying to cross one of the gutters along the pathway.

The distressed resident told One News SVG that the unkept area is also a hazard where villagers were once attacked and robbed.

The resident told One News SVG that it is their hope that the authorities address the issue soon by putting a proper concrete road or pathway soon.

Attempts have been made numerous times over the years to get the authorities to act, but nothing has been done, the resident said, adding that members of that area of the community are still traumatized by the injuries suffered by people simply trying to get to and from their homes.

The road can be accessed by taking the road from the second gap after the catholic church, then down a hill and onto a concrete road. At the end of the concrete road is where the trouble starts, the resident says.
