Boy uses cart rides to raise funds to help Lodge Village students with printing needs

A student at the Lodge Village Government School is offering fun rides to children at his school to help raise funds to meet the printing needs of his class.

According to the Education Media Unit of the Ministry of Education, the student, Khallid Ragguette, 11, got the idea from a text book.

He decided to pursue the idea in an effort to address the challenge of limited printing resources for Grade 6 students at school. He charges $1 for a cart ride, and the monies raised will be used to purchase a printer and other printing materials to help students.

According to the Education Media Unit, the move is part of the student’s Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment – CPEA book report requirement, and he chose to showcase his personal response to a business-oriented story found in his Language Arts text book (The Language Tree, second edition, pg. 78,79).

The text book tells a story of a little boy whose mother lost her job and in an effort to support her financially, he came up with the idea of offering children in his neighbourhood a cart ride for $1.

It is this idea that Khallid borrowed to help with the printing needs of grade six students at the Lodge Village Government School.

So far, both students and teachers at the school have been supporting his efforts.

His Class Teacher is Mrs. Pope. His Language Arts teacher is Mrs. King and his mother is Ms. Keryssa King.
