Aecon, the contractor for the Kingstown Port Modernisation Project, held a neighborhood children’s party for some residents impacted by the project.

In a release, Aecon said it “took corporate responsibility seriously by hosting a neighborhood children’s party on Saturday, 16 December”.

The Christmas party was held at the Kingstown Anglican School, adjacent to the work site.

“The residents of Rose Place are the people most affected by the port project and supporting the community neighboring the development is important,” the company said.

“Despite the rainy weather, over fifty (50) children attended the event. The children enjoyed hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks and left with bags of candy and other surprises,” the company added.

Aecon said the highlight of the party was a visit from Santa who brought special Christmas gifts from the North Pole (via Canada.)

“Aecon employees, working in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and in the Canadian corporate office, volunteered their time to make the day a special one for Rose Place and Lowmans Bay children,” the release added.

The Kingstown Port Modernisation Project is being constructed at a cost of over 600 million Eastern Caribbean Dollars (XCD).

Scores of residents and fisherfolk had to be relocated from Rose Place where much of the project is being built to Lowmans Bay.
