The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (GOSVG) says it commends the State of Qatar and His Highness, the Emir, Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for their extraordinary efforts in facilitating the recent swap of prisoners/detainees between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the United States of America.

In a press release issued on December 22, the Office of the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines said the swap took place in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on the island of Canouan on December 20, 2023.

“The GOSVG further encourages the Government of the State of Qatar to continue its selfless, peace-building quest to secure a possible normalisation of relations between Venezuela and the USA in accord with the fundamental tenets of the Charter of the United Nations,” the press release stated.

“The Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines extended his government’s commendation and encouragement to the distinguished Emir of Qatar in a letter dated December 22, 2023,” the release added.
