After being affecting by disruptions in their water supply for most of the Christmas season, residents in seven Windward communities are again facing the water disruptions.
In a statement issued today (December 27), the Central Water and Sewage Authority – CWSA said the intake to the Perseverance Water Treatment Facility was closed because of the reoccurrence of excessively high level of silt in the incoming water.
As a result, the water supply will be disrupted in Dickson, Spring Village, Langley Park, Chapmans, Rabacca, Orange Hill, and Tourama.
The CWSA said that delivery of water by truck will recommence until the pipe- borne water service is restored.
The State-owned company, the lone pipe Bourne water provider in the country said: “We wish to thank consumers for your patience and understanding as we continue to monitor the situation and work tirelessly towards a full system restoration”.
Since December 18, the water supply in the affected communities was disrupted as heavy rains created mudflows that challenged the filters of the Perseverance intake.
Residents of the affected communities said they were able to get a supply of water for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but the disruptions now continue.
Perseverance is one of about eighteen water systems operated by the CWSA. It serves communities from Byrea through Georgetown to Orange Hill.
Located in the volcanic Red Zone, the system is at risk of being affected by mudflows since the 2021 eruption of the La Soufrière volcano.
