The wildlife hunting season is now closed, and persons found hunting the wildlife could balliceaux fined $2,000 and 6 months imprisonment.
The Department of Forestry in the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry, Fisheries, and Rural Transformation reminded the public of the closure of the season.
In a Facebook post today (January 2), the department reminded the public that the hunting season for wildlife ran from October 1 to December 31, 2023.
Some of the animals people hunt for include iguanas, manicous, agoutis, armadillas, and scaly-naped pigeons.
Since the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano in 2021 and its ravaging effects on wildlife, the Forestry Department has had to curtail hunting of wildlife. One of the measures taken in that regard has been to shorten the open period allowed for hunting.
