Two baby girls graced St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) with their presence on January 2, 2024, making them the first two children born this year.
According to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, no births were recorded in the country on January 1, 2024.
The first baby to be born at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and in the country for 2024 was Cassiah whose mother – Cassandra Gerald, 26, gave birth to her at 8:57 a.m., on January 2, 2024,
Cassandra, a farmer from Colonaire gave birth to the baby girl she has considered a gift.

She told One News SVG that the pregnancy was okay, except for the first few months.
“For the first few months of the pregnancy, I was really sick, but after five (5) months, I started feeling better,” she told One News SVG’s Demion McTair who visited the Maternity B Ward of the hospital after permission from the Hospital’s Administrator.
Cassandra said she is “happy about her” new-born baby.
The baby’s father is Gerald Walters.
The second baby to be born for 2024 at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital has not yet been named.
She was brought into the world at 10:22 a.m., on January 2, 2024 by her mother – Mrs. Aviyonah Simmons-Bailey.
Bailey, 22, of Sion Hill told One News SVG that she and her husband are happy to have the baby. Her husband is Ronnick Bailey.

When asked how does it feel to bring another life into the world, Mrs. Bailey said: “It feels good minus the pain”.
She said the most heartwarming moment so far is when her baby smiled at her.
For privacy reasons, we did not ask the parents about the order of birth of the children.
