The Sir. Vincent Beache Athletic Stadium in Diamond is set to get five upgrades under a project by the Ministry of Economic Planning.

In a recent post, Minister of Economic Planning – Camillo Gonsalves said the facility is getting roofing for the existing stands.

One News SVG visited the facility today (January 6) and saw the roofing work on the stands.

The ongoing works, however, are having an impact on athletes’ use of the facility.

The other four things the stadium will get under the project, according to Mr. Gonsalves are concession stands, administrative offices, change rooms, and an athlete’s gym.

No specific timeline was given as to when the works will be completed, but the government announced that the works will be done in phases.

The facility will also be lit, according to Mr. Gonsalves.

In his post, Mr. Gonsalves said: “In the upcoming years, there are exciting plans to enhance the facility. By 2024, a warm-up track and extra seating will be added, followed by the installation of lighting in 2025”.

“These improvements will undoubtedly elevate the overall experience,” he added.

The facility which provided this country’s first synthetic track has also been designed with a soccer field at its centre.

After the first phase of construction, the facility opened for sporting activities in November 2020.
