A 104-year-old resident of Lowmans Leeward has died just five days away from her 105th birthday.
Mrs. Olive Comas-Phillips of Lowmans Hill died peacefully at her home this morning (January 14).
She was one of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ oldest residents.
Her birthday would have been January 19th, 2024.

On the occasion of her 104th birthday on January 19, 2023, Mrs. Comes-Phillips was joined by her family and the Parliamentary representative for West Kingstown – Mr. Daniel Cummings.
During that occasion, she had spent the afternoon with family and friends, ate food, sang hymns, and talked about life.
Mrs. Comas-Phillips was active in her earlier life as she spent much of her time in sales. She sold vegetables frequently in Kingstown.
According to one of her close relatives, one of her favorite scriptures that kept her going was Psalms 23. In an interview last January, the family said she was also thankful for all of her eight children and many grandchildren, including Mesell Williams who took care of her.
Psalms 23 reads:
King James Version
23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
