Vincentian-born Costian Cupid, 48, has risen from being a Masa salesperson to managing sales for a branch of the international company in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
Masa Global is a US-based company that offers emergency air coverage to its members through Masa Assist.
The company says on its website that it was founded in 1974 and has over 2 million active members worldwide, including 19 MASA Assist locations across the Caribbean.
Mr. Cupid who worked as a sales agent for Masa Assist in St. Vincent and the Grenadines from April 2021 was promoted to work at Masa St. Croix on May 1, 2023.
After months of hard work, he has now been promoted to sales manager. The promotion took effect on January 15, 2024.
“Congratulations to Costian Cupid on his promotion from St. Croix sales agent to sales MANAGER! Costian has exhibited tremendous growth, teamwork, and initiatives with protecting persons and families with MASA life-saving membership benefits,” the company said.
In an interview with One News SVG, Mr. Cupid who is originally from Campden Park, St. Vincent said he was “super excited” about the promotion. He said his best experiences with Masa have been those involving helping persons who are ill.
He also took the opportunity during the interview to encourage people to plan for medical emergencies, as those events often come out of nowhere, he said.
“Medical emergency is like the weather. You never know when and where. Put medical safety measures in place just in case an emergency occurs. Medical emergencies can cost a lot of money out of pocket,” he said.
He said being a Masa member is very important. He said it is important to gain Masa membership before an urgent need arises.
His story in sales
Mr. Cupid said his journey in sales started when he was age 16, selling eggs outside Bonadie’s Supermarket with Mr. Murphy who operated a chicken farm in Campden Park.
He then moved on to selling health products.
Talent met fate when Mr. Cupid went to sell health products to Masa’s Sales Manager in St. Vincent in 2021, Mr. Cupid said.
“A guy like you needs to be working with Masa with that type of sales skills,” Mr Cupid said the Masa Sales Manager told him.
It was that fateful sale and that connection that propelled his career in sales further.
“As a result of that, I became one of the top Masa sales agents for St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 2022,” Mr. Cupid said.
He said he is grateful to the people on his journey and to Masa for investing in him with training and quality experiences.
