Over 700 students earlier today (February 9) received the EC $500 award from the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) for their performance in the 2023 May-June exit exams, the Education Media Unit says.
The exams include the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) administered the 2023 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

Students who completed the 2023 Associate Degree programmes at St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) with the requisite GPA were also awarded.
Meanwhile, some students were unable to make it for varying reasons. For some traveling from the Grenadines to the mainland, ferries were unable to dock due to rough marine conditions, so those students were unable to collect their cash awards today (February 9). To those students, and others the Education Media Unit announced new collection dates and a new venue.

“Recipients who were unable to arrange collection today are advised that the distribution will continue from Tuesday 13 to Friday 16 February 2024 between 8:30 a.m. and 12 noon at the Ministry of Education’s main administrative building (top) on Halifax Street in Kingstown,” the Education Media Unit said.
“Recipients must present some form of identification when collecting the awards. Persons collecting on behalf of recipients must have a letter of authorization and a copy of the recipient’s ID,” the Education Media Unit added.
For several years, the government has been paying out the cash award to successful students who meet the criteria.
