The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Force (RSVGPF) says it will host a Gun Amnesty Walkabout and Town Hall Meeting in the West Kingstown Communities of Edinboro and Ottley Hall.

In a press release issued today (February 27), the RSVGPF said both events will be held on Thursday 29th February 2024 with the Walkabout from 4:00 p.m. and the Town Hall Meeting from 6:30 p.m.

The venue for the Town Hall Meeting will be the Edinboro Hard Court, the release stated.

Over the years, the two communities have seen periodic upticks in gun violence.

The events are being held as part of the RSVGPF’s Community Outreach Programme for 2024 and to sensitize the public about the National Firearms Amnesty.

The events are being held in collaboration with the National Commission on Crime Prevention (NCCP) and other partners, the RSVGPF said.

The National Firearms (Gun) Amnesty will come into effect on Friday 01st March 2024 for ninety-two (92) days. It will conclude on Friday 31st May 2024.

The RSVGPF said it solicits the cooperation of all concerned to help remove illegal firearms from the hands of criminals and from ‘off the streets’ of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“Together we can, “KEEP THE COUNTRY SAFE FROM ILLEGALLY HELD FIREARMS,” the RSVGPF said.

Other walkthroughs have so far been held in Chateaubelair, Georgetown, and Calliaqua.
