UN Secretary General to meet with PM Gonsalves & tour projects in SVG

The United Nations Secretary-General H.E. Antonio Guterres will meet with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and will tour government projects over the weekend.

According to a release from the Agency for Public Information – API, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves will hold a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Secretary General, His Excellency Antonio Guterres, at the VIP Lounge, Argyle International Airport (AIA) at approximately 4pm, on Thursday, February 29th 2024. 

A press briefing would be convened, following the bilateral meeting at approximately 4:30 pm, the API said.

The API also said Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, and United Nations Secretary General, His Excellency Antonio Guterres, will conduct a tour of government projects in the North Windward community on March 2nd, 2024. 

The United Nations Secretary General Antony Gutiérrez will attended the March 2024 CELAC Conference in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). 

According to the Agency for Public Information- API, Mr. Gutiérrez will lead a delegation and will be among 400 diplomats and heads of state at the 2024 CELAC conference in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Community of Latin America and the Caribbean (CELAC) summit will take place at the Sandals Resort in Buccament. The summit takes place on March 1 2024, the API said. 

“Among matters to be discussed are Food Security, Peace, Climate Change, Healthcare,” the API said. 

“St Vincent and the Grenadines will also hand over leadership of the Pro Tempore Presidency to incoming President Honduras,” the release stated.

The API said Sandals Regional Project Manager Terrence Des Vignes gave the assurance that the resort would meet its deadline and be ready for the CELAC summit in March. 

“Speaking with the API during an official tour of the project, Devene said the 220 million US dollar project is on stream. The Resort boasts 301 rooms, 200 suites, 91 Villas, 10 Over Water Villas, 10 restaurants, 5 Bars, a Nurses Station and a barbershop,” the release stated. 

The total room capacity of Sandals in SVG is 602 guests. “At full capacity, the resort could have up to 4 thousand guests,” the API said.
