Sandy Bay Secondary wins inaugural Adelphi Public Speaking Competition

The Sandy Bay Secondary School has won the inaugural Adelphi Secondary School’s Public Speaking Competition.

Sandy Bay Secondary School’s representative – Macy Baptiste outperformed three other speakers to win the competition.

The competition was held today (March 13) at the Adelphi Secondary School. There were two main categories of speech, namely the Prepared Speech and the Impromptu Speech.

The topic on which all participants presented a prepared speech was:

“Paramount Chief Joseph Chatoyer is the only national hero St Vincent and the Grenadines has. With a criteria, who will you choose for our next national hero and why?”

According to a post by the Sandy Bay Secondary School, Macy took the top position in the Prepared Speech category and the Impromptu category.

According to information received by One News SVG, some of the impromptu topics on which students presented include Social Media, Vincy Van Culture, School Rules, and Easter.

In the overall results, Dilesia Texeria of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia placed 2nd in the competition while Ebony Nanton of the St Clair Dacon Secondary placed third, according to information from the Adelphi Secondary.

The full list of participants included Dilesia Texeria of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia, Ebony Nanton of the St Clair Dacon Secondary, Nicholas Clark of the Adelphi Secondary, and Macy Baptiste of the Sandy Bay Secondary, according to information from the Adelphi Secondary.

According to information from the Adelphi Secondary School, all participants received certificates and cash prizes.

According information from the school, the competition was an initiative by the Language Department. It was done with the hopes of developing students’ critical thinking skills and oral expression skills.

According to the information received by One News SVG, the department said it looks forward to making this event an annual event and hopes that more schools from the countryside will enter next year (2025).
