The river below the popular bus stop near Massy Stores Arnos Vale and Great Head Bay both received a major cleaning today (March 16) as four entities joined forces.

In the River cleanup, the Communication and Public Education Unit of the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority joined forces with the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) to clean the area and the Cub Scouts of the SVG Scouts Association to clean a section of river.

The clean-up of the section of the Warrawarrou River in Arnos Vale was done as part of the International Day of Action for Rivers.

The organizers told One News SVG that some 27 large bags of trash weighing over 300 pounds were removed from the river and the river bank.

More than fifteen people participated in the river clean-up.

In the beach clean-up at Great Head Bay, the National Parks, Rivers, and Beaches Authority’s Communication and Public Education Unit collaborated with the Rotaract Club of Kingstown to conduct the cleaning.

The Greathead Bay team comprised over 22 people.

An undisclosed amount of trash was removed from that beach.

The beach clean-up was a general move to protect the environment.

The National Parks, Rivers, and Beaches Authority said it is encouraging members of the public to play a part in preserving and protecting the country’s rivers and beaches.
