The Commissioner of Police (Ag) Mr. Enville Williams, Gazetted Officers, and rank and file members of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) and its Auxiliary Police Force have extended their deepest condolences to the widow, family, and friends of Constable Robin Spencer.
Spencer died today (March 17) in a suspected drowning event while fishing in the Brighton/Kitchen area.
In a press release issued on Sunday night (March 17), the RSVGPF said police in the Calliaqua district have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Spencer’s suspected drowning.
In the press release the RSVGPF said Police Constable 849 Robin Spencer of Diamond was serving member of the RSVGPF and attached to the Narcotics Unit.
The incident
Police said in the press release that according to preliminary investigations, Spencer and one of his friends went fishing at the aforementioned beach sometime after 1:00 p.m. Reports indicated that sometime after 3:00 p.m. while fishing, Spencer was swept out to sea by a wave and succumbed to death.
“The SVG Coast Guard was notified, and a team of officersimmediately proceeded to the area on a Coast Guard vessel and conducted a search and rescue exercise. Spencer’s unresponsive body was recovered from the water by members of the Coast Guard who unsuccessfully performed CardiopulmonaryResuscitation (CPR) on him. Spencer was transported to the Coast Guard Base where he was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner,” police said in the release.
Police said: “A post-mortem examination will be conducted on the body on Monday 18th March 2024 to ascertain the cause of death”.
“Anyone with information that can assist with this and other investigations is asked to call 911/999, the Calliaqua Police Station at 784-458-4200, or any police station or police officer they are comfortable speaking with. Any information received would be dealt with confidentially,” police said.
“May his soul rest in perpetual peace,” the RSVGPF said.
Sunday’s drowning is the second reported drowning death in just over a week.
