A fire broke out at the Owia Salt Pond Recreational Park tonight (March 20).
Just hours before the official Closing Ceremony of the Rehabilitation and Restoration of the Dark View Falls Recreation Park and Owia Salt Pond Recreational Park Project, a building at the Owia Salt Pond Recreational Park has been gutted by fire.

The ceremony by the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority in collaboration with the SVG Conservation Fund was scheduled for 11:00 a.m, on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Owia Salt Pond Recreational Park.
The closing ceremony was to mark the successful rehabilitation of the park which was severely affected by ash fall from the 2021 explosive eruptions of the La Soufrière volcano.

The cause of the fire is unknown. There have been no reports of injury to anyone.
The exact extent of the damage is also unknown, but residents on the scene said a vending kiosk has been affected.
This is a developing story and we will bring more information as it comes to hand.

Here is a video where a resident of the area – Mr. Sheldon Small was able to capture the fire LIVE.
