The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment announced Wednesday (March 20), that visiting hours to the Male Surgical Ward of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) will be restricted to 3 pm to 4pm only effective immediately until further notice.
The 11 am to 12pm visiting period has been suspended, the ministry announced in a press release.

“Additionally, each patient in the Male Surgical Ward MCMH will only be allowed one (1) bedside visitor during the visiting period,” the ministry said in the press release.
“The name of this single visitor will be provided by each patient and must be on a list which will be kept at the Security Booth at the Kingstown District Clinic entrance to the MCMH,” the ministry said.

“The listed visitor must present some form of picture identification to the security officer at the entrance to the MCMH. Once the visitor has been confirmed as being on the list a ‘pass’ will be issued by the Security Officer at the gate. This pass and the picture ID must be presented to the Security Officer at the door of the Male Surgical Ward before entry,” the ministry added.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and the Environment said it requests the full cooperation of the public as we work to ensure the health and well-being of the staff and patients at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
Backstory

In a March 20 press release, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) officially announced that there was a shooting incident at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, the country’s main hospital located in Kingstown.
The RSVGPF said the shooting occurred at approximately 11:25 PM on the 19th of March, 2024, at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).

“The incident in question involved a male patient who was receiving medical care in the facility’s Male Surgical ward at the time of the occurrence. The RSVGPF is also relieved to report that no other patients or hospital staff were targeted or harmed during this isolated event,” the release stated.
“Initial findings suggest that an unidentified individual bypassed security measures at the checkpoints and gained unauthorized access to the hospital grounds. This person was seeking a particular male patient and, upon locating him, discharged a firearm twice at the individual before making an attempt to escape the vicinity,” the release stated.

Police say several individuals believed to be connected to the March 19 shooting at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) have been arrested and detained.
The shooting however is said to have been done by one individual who was successfully apprehended by police.
