The official police report on body found in Belmont

Police say they have opened an investigation into the discovery of a body that was found at Belmont on Sunday 24th March, 2024. The body was discovered at approximately 7:00 am by a resident who later informed the Police.

In a March 26 press release, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police (RSVGPF) said: “The body was subsequently identified as Kemiesha Hayne 17 years Domestic of Richmond Hill. The scene was visited by the Police and a medical practitioner who pronounced the body”.

“A post-mortem examination is expected to be done to ascertain the cause of death,” police said.

“Anyone with information that can assist with the investigation is asked to call Police Emergency at 999/911 or, the Calliaqua Police Station at 1784-458-4200 or any other police officer you are comfortable speaking with. Any information received will be treated confidentially,” police said.

 

List of Homicides so far in 2024

St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) has recorded several homicides so far in 2024.

Based on published police reports, here are the nine homicides recorded to date.

Homicide #1:

Sunday, January 21, 2024: The first homicide recorded in 2024 was that of Redemption Sharpes resident – Rudolph Pollard who was found dead in Kingstown after discharging himself from the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. Pollard was stabbed and went to hospital but discharged himself.

According to the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), in a press release, Raheem Dasilva, a 24-year-old Labourer of Redemption Sharpes was charged with the offence of murder on Wednesday January 31, 2024. Dasilva is accused of causing the death of Rudolph Pollard, formerly of Redemption Sharpes by an unlawful act on January 21, 2024, in Kingstown.

The accused was arraigned at the Kingstown Magistrate Court on Wednesday January 31, 2024. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. The case was adjourned to 6th May 2024 and transferred to the Serious Offences Court for a Preliminary Inquiry. Dasilva was remanded in custody.

Homicide #2: 

Wednesday, January 31, 2024: The Major Crime Unit of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Keith Davis, alias “Engine Head” of Ottley Hall.

In a February 1 press release, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said the deceased was on Wednesday 31st January 2024 sometime after 5:00 p.m., lying motionless in an unfinished house in Ottley Hall, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds about his body.

Investigations are continuing.

Homicide #3: 

Saturday, February 3, 2024: The Major Crime Unit (MCU) of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said it is investigating a shooting incident that has resulted in the death of Jenson Aubrey Hamilton, a fifty-five (55) year-old Labourer of Gibson Corner, which occurred about 7:20 p.m. on Saturday 03rd February 2024 in Gibson Corner.

Mr. Hamilton’s death is the third homicide so far for 2024.

“Preliminary information revealed that Hamilton was on his way home from Kingstown when he was accosted by an assailant(s) and shot multiple times about his body. The police were alerted and promptly proceeded to the scene,” a press release issued on February 4 by the RSVGPF stated.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the police met Hamilton’s motionless body lying on the public road, a short distance away from his home. The scene was processed by the Crime Scene Unit (CSU). Hamilton was later pronounced deceased at the scene by a medical practitioner,” police said.

Homicide #4: 

Wednesday, February 7, 2024: The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said its Major Crime Unit (MCU) launched an investigation into a shooting incident that resulted in the death of Khalique Rock, a 27-year-old Labourer of Green Hill.

Police said in a February 8 press release that the incident occurred about 7:28 p.m. on Wednesday 7th February 2024 in Green Hill.

The event marked the fourth homicide recorded in SVG for 2024.

In the release, police said: “Preliminary investigations revealed that at the time of the fatal shooting, Rock was socializing with a group of friends in front of his house when two (2) assailants with guns approached and fired several shots at them. Rock was shot multiple times on his body and was later pronounced deceased by a medical practitioner at the scene”.

“The crime scene was processed by the Crime Scene Unit (CSU) and items of evidential value were collected,” police said.

Homicide #5: 

Saturday, February 10, 2024: The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said they have charged 22-year-old Jeremiah Samuel of Rose Hall with the Kidnapping and Murder of Janae Samuel-Wright, a 1-year-old infant of the same address.

The charges were laid against the accused on Sunday 25th February 2024 at the Major Crime Unit, Police Headquarters, Kingstown.

In a press release, police said Samuel is charged that on Saturday 10th February 2024, in Rose Hall he:

1. Stole and carried away the deceased without the consent of her mother;

2. With malice aforethought, caused the death of Janae Samuel-Wright by an unlawful act.

The defendant was arraigned on February 26 at the Kingstown Magistrate Court. He was not expected to plea to the indictable charge.

Homicide #6: 

Monday, February 12, 2024: The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said its Major Crime Unit (MCU) is investigating a shooting incident that killed Eyon Olando Browne aka “Dog”, a 45-year-old Mason of Old Montrose.

In a February 12 press release police said: “Browne was accosted and shot by an unknown assailant about 6:40 a.m. on Monday 12th February 2024 in the vicinity of Greg’s Auto Rentals, Old Montrose approximately 200 feet from his home. He was reportedly on his way to work in CampdenPart at the time of the tragic incident”.

Browne’s homicide is the sixth so far for 2024.

“A party of police officers who were on patrol duties in the district were alert and promptly responded and secured the scene. Browne was immediately transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) by the police for treatment where he was later pronounced deceased by a medical practitioner, the press release stated.

Police said: “The crime scene was processed by the Crime Scene Unit (CSU) and items of evidential value were collected”.

Homicide #7: 

Wednesday, February 14, 2024: The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said officers at the Questelles Police Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 30-year-old resident of Campden Park.

In a February 15 press release, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said that on 14th February 2024, about 11:40 a.m., the police received a report of a stabbing incident in Campden Park.

“The police responded and met a female lying unresponsive in her yard with what appeared to be stab wounds on her body. She was later identified as Carona Jennings and pronounced deceased at the scene by a medical practitioner,” the release stated.

“The crime scene was secured and processed by the Crime Scene Unit. A postmortem examination will be conducted on the body to ascertain the cause of death. Jennings’ death is the seventh (7th) homicide recorded for 2024. A male suspect is in custody assisting with the investigation,” the release added.

On February 16, police announced that they charged 18-year-old Kayode Richardson of Campden Park with the offence of Murder.

The charge was laid earlier on February 16 at the Criminal Investigations Department, police said in a release.

Richardson is accused of causing the death of Carona Themisha Petronia Jennings, 30 years old of Campden Park, police said.

Homicide #8: 

Tuesday, March 19, 2024: A man was shot on Tuesday morning (March 19) in the West Kingstown community of Ottley Hall.

According to reports, he was shot in his head and died on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Camran “Bogie’ Miller.

The circumstances surrounding his shooting are unknown. His death brings the confirmed homicide count for 2024 to eight (8).

Homicide #9: 

Sunday, March 24, 2024: Police have confirmed that the body that was discovered today (March 24) in Belmont is that of a female teenager.

One News SVG contacted the police via telephone and they confirmed that the body was found in Belmont over an embankment.

The deceased has so far been identified as 17-year-old Kemeisha Haynes of Murray’s Village.

Haynes’ death is being treated as a homicide, but the results of an autopsy will help to determine the cause of her death.

Other incidents are being investigated, including two drowning deaths (one at Tourama, North Windward and the other at Indian Bay, but based on the best of our knowledge, none of these incidents have been reported by the police as homicides.
