Members of staff at the St. Vincent Brewery Limited teamed up with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Leo Club and residents of Rusha Bay to remove oceanic garbage and other debris from the neighboring Roucha Bay beach.
In an April 5 press release, the Brewery said the activity took place on March 22 as part of International World Water Day celebrations.

According to the United Nations, oceanic trash also known as marine debris consists of items that have been made or used by people and deliberately discarded into the sea or rivers or on beaches.
“The staffers noted that most of the garbage comprised plastic bottles, metal scraps, and almond tree leaves,” the Brewery said.
According to the press release, Plant Manager, Colin Huskinson advised that “Our company was pleased to be able to provide the resources and dedicate the time to clean up the beach area adjacent to the plant as part of World Water Day celebrations. Our emphasis here is two-fold: one, our company sees itself as a strong partner in St. Vincent’s water and marine conservation and second, we believe in being a “good neighbor” with our Rusha Bay businesses and residents”.

“Each year we celebrate World Water Day to raise awareness of our achievements in water management, renew our focus and encourage staff to innovate and further improve. This year, we decided to focus that energy on cleaning up our surroundings for the benefit of us all,” he added, according to the press release.
“Cheraz Sutherland, People Coordinator who facilitated ppthe initiative with the safety & environment team, also expressed her pleasure over the brewery’s commitment to the beautification of the area,” the press release stated.

“Here at St. Vincent Brewery Limited we place strong emphasis on our environment stewardship, and we see it important to give back to our community,” Ms. Sutherland said, according to the press release.
The Brewery said: “Over the past several years, St. Vincent Brewery has been dedicating the time and resources for at least two Rusha Bay [sic] cleanups annually”.

Roucha Bay, which is located at the mouth of the Campden Park Industrial Estate has been an area under an environmental microscope for years due to pollution.
Government, NGO’s and the Corporate sector have all been taking measures to improve the quality of the area and in particular, the beach.
