Chairman of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Reparations Commission – Mr. Adrian Odle will travel to Geneva, Switzerland next week for talks surrounding reparations and issues facing people of African descent.
Mr. Odle, an attorney at law and a lecturer was invited to attend the third session of the Permanent Forum at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland from 16 to 19 April 2024.

The forum being held by the United Nations Human Rights focuses on the theme: “The Second
International Decade for People of African Descent: Addressing Systemic Racism, Reparatory Justice, and Sustainable Development.”
According to UN, almost 700 participants are expected at this third session, which is organized under the theme: “The Second International Decade for People of African Descent: Addressing Systemic Racism, Reparatory Justice and Sustainable Development”.
The convening will be a global gathering of delegates representing governments, UN agencies, international and regional organisations, civil society activists, and community-based associations from every corner of the globe, the UN says.

“It will provide a platform to share strategies, experiences and recommendations aimed at advancing the human rights of people of African descent in every country,” according to the UN.
“It will also celebrate the rich cultures of people of African descent and elevate the contributions that people of African descent have made to
societies in different regions of the world,” the UN says.
In December 2013, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2015 to 2024
to be the International Decade for People of African Descent, with the theme “People of African descent: Recognition, Justice and Development.” As the International Decade is coming to an end, it is time to reflect on the achievements and shortcomings of the initiative, and to make recommendations on the tangible actions to be taken in the next 10 years,” the UN says.

The UN says: “Building on insights gathered from the first two sessions, the Permanent Forum members have identified systemic racism, reparatory justice, and sustainable development as
overarching themes to guide the forthcoming International Decade”.
During the session Mr. Odle will attend, the intricacies of these overarching themes will be delved into while examining specific issues integral to each.
