Police seized over 2,500 rounds of ammunition, weapons at Campden Park Port

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said it seized illegal weapons at the Campden Park Cargo Port on April 9.

In an April 11 press release, the RSVGPF said: “In a strategic operation conducted on 9th April 2023, the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) of the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) executed a search which resulted in the seizure of illegal weaponry and ammunition at the Campden Park Port”.

Police said: “This operation highlights the proactive and dedicated efforts of our specialized units in combating illegal arms trafficking”.

The seized items include one (1) .38 Special Revolver, a comprehensive assortment of ammunition totaling 2,538 rounds, covering calibers such as .40mm, 9mm, .380, FN 5.7 x 28mm, and .22. ammunition;an extended magazine and a number of fireworks, police said.

“This successful operation reflects the RSVGPF’s strong and unwavering commitment to combating illegal arms trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of our nation. We remain dedicated to our mission of preventing, disrupting, and dismantling illegal activities, reinforcing our resolve to protect and serve our nation,” police said.

The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said it also wishes to remind the public of the ongoing Gun Amnesty, which commenced on March 1st 2024 and will conclude on May 31st 2024. During this period, individuals are encouraged to surrender any illegal firearms and ammunition they may possess without facing prosecution, no questions asked.

“We also encourage the public to continue providing valuable information that assists in our collective security efforts,” the police said in the release.
