The Indian High Commissioner in Suriname visited the grounds of the Central Leeward Secondary School (formerly the Barrouallie Secondary) today (April 12), as plans progress to build a gymnasium at the school.
The Central Leeward Secondary School has been consistently excelling at sports with the female athletes winning the National Inter-Secondary Athletics Championships for seven consecutive times and the males excelling at various sporting disciplines.

According to a post by the Indian High Commission in Paramaribo, Suriname, High Commissioner Dr. Shankar Balachandran accompanied by Attorney General Mr Grenville T Williams visited the School this morning to inspect the location of a proposed greenfield building to house a gymnasium for the school.
The Deputy Principal of the school and officers of the Ministry of Housing and Land received them and explained the salient features of the facility, the post said.
The proposed building block is one of the five QIPs (Quick Impact Projects) in SVG under India’s consideration for a grant, the post said.

The visit was one of several visits to various Quick Impacts Project sites across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The High Commissioner also visited the hard court in Ottley Hall which was funded by the Quick Impacts Project and the Penniston Community Centre which will be rehabilitated under the project.

Last year, a new sporting facility was built in Glenside Mesopotamia under the Project. Other projects were also completed under the project.
The Quick Impacts Project comes as India strengthens its South-South Cooperation and as infrastructure in India is experiencing marked growth and expansion.
