A stroll through the streets of Kingstown reveals the rich history of construction in our country, evident in the unique designs and architectural features such as cobblestones, quoins, and steep gabled roofs.
While modern construction has introduced larger and more resilient buildings, both traditional and modern structures coexist in our cityscape. However, one glaring issue persists: the lack of upkeep of buildings, whether public or private.
Mould, characterized by the growth of spores in areas with excessive moisture, poses significant health risks to occupants. Symptoms such as blurred vision, skin rashes, headaches, and respiratory issues underscore the urgent need for proper maintenance to eliminate mould and its root causes.
Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach. Firstly, there must be a focus on education and training to equip individuals with the skills necessary for effective building maintenance. Additionally, concrete actions, backed by genuine intention, are essential to ensure the long-term preservation of both the buildings and the health of our people.
It is crucial to emphasize that the call for proper building maintenance is not about assigning blame but rather about taking proactive steps to safeguard our infrastructure and the well-being of our community.
