One News SVG is investigating reports that a teacher fell victim to physical assault at the hands of another teacher at the Layou Government School.

The incident took place yesterday (May 21) and was reported by residents of the Central Leeward town who are close to the matter.

One News SVG contacted the principal of the school via telephone for comment on the issue. The principal said: “The matter is being dealt with and it is under control; I won’t be able to say anything”.

Here is what was reported to us.

The names of the complainant and the accused have been withheld due to the sensitive nature of the matter and the current reporting stage.

The incident took place at around 9:15 a.m. in the Principal’s office.

Two teachers were involved and another was allegedly filming the incident.

The principal allegedly called into his office the two teachers to try to settle the issue.

All the parties were in the office when the complainant teacher was allegedly hit, thrown to the ground, and squeezed, but it was the security guard at the school who had to rush in to help the inflicted teacher after hearing cries for help.

What led to the incident, according to reports:

The issue is reported to have started after the complainant who has a child at the school verbally expressed some concerns about the quality of the instruction their child was receiving at the school in a particular subject area in another class.

Since then, the complainant teacher’s child who attends the school was allegedly physically assaulted in the head by another teacher which reportedly left the child with headaches and admonition that the child should probably be homeschooled if “princess treatment” was required.

The issue became more aggressive when the complainant teacher raised another issue about teachers allegedly taking what they wanted from the school’s kitchen. Several teachers became disgruntled at the accusation.

This is what reportedly led to a meeting in the principal’s office where one of the accused teachers reportedly brought back items for the kitchen.

The accused teacher shared a verbal exchange with the complainant teacher in the presence of the principal during the meeting in the office which then became physical.

Other teachers rushed to the scene but the security officer had already rescued the complainant teacher.

It is reported that the accused teacher allegedly said: “Yo love talk, you think is now me want beat yo,” while squeezing the complainant teacher to the ground in the principal’s office.

The accused teacher, at the time of the incident, was on sick leave but came to the school to have the matter addressed.

The two teachers are currently on leave. The victim of the physical attack is on sick leave.

The matter is being investigated.
