4 Vincentians graduate with diplomas in Air Traffic Control – One News SVG

Four (4) Vincentian students, on May 24, graduated with diplomas in Aerodrome and Approach Procedural Air Traffic Control from the Civil Aviation Training Center in Trinidad and Tobago.

The batch includes three males and one female. The students are Raycarter Williams, 23, from Union Island, Juwan Howard, 21, from Upper Cane Hall, Makemba Nanton, 31, from Old Montrose, and Elisia Glasgow, 25, from Harmony Hall, the female.

The Aerodrome and Approach Procedural Air Traffic Control is one part of the programme. The other part of the programme is Area Control Procedural which ends on June 28th.

One News SVG spoke to Juvan Howard on Saturday (May 25). He said: “Reflecting on my participation in the Aerodrome and Approach Control Programme, I found it to be an enjoyable yet demanding journey”.

Mr. Howard said: “The course demanded a high level of dedication and perseverance, presenting challenges that tested our capabilities. Despite occasional moments of uncertainty, my colleagues and I remained focused in our commitment to succeed”.

The successful graduate told One News SVG: “We had countless study sessions, collaborating closely with peers from St. Lucia, Trinidad, Turks and Caicos and British Virgin islands who shared our aspirations”.

“Countless late nights were spent preparing for the rigorous assessments ahead, driven by a shared determination to excel and make everyone back home proud,” he said.

“Overall, the Aerodrome and Approach Control Programme provided a profound learning experience, equipping me with invaluable skills and knowledge essential for the field of air traffic control. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a transformative journey,” he added.

The Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC), established in 1963, said on its website that it is the training arm of the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA).

The CATC offers a wide range of technical, operational and management programmes to the local, regional and international markets. The CATC is the leading aviation training institution in the Caribbean region, having
delivered over 2000 Air Traffic Control professionals since its inception, the organization says on its website.

The CATC said its training experts are specialised trainers dedicated to ensuring that every programme is delivered using the latest training technologies, equipment, and to the
highest international and best practice standards, in order to meet the needs of the global aviation community.

The CATC said it is registered with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago and is also internationally recognized and accredited by The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as an ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Full Member.

It is also accredited by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as an IATA Regional Training Partner (RTP) and an IATA Authorised Training Centre (ATC).

The CATC said it is also affiliated with and delivers training programmes in conjunction with The University of Southern California (USC) and The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).
