Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves announced today (May 27) that disaster-affected people who have already been allocated homes by the government will receive their deeds free of charge.
Hundreds of people in North Windward and North Leeward lost their homes as a result of the 2021 eruption of the La Soufriere volcano and other disasters before.
The government, with support from development partners such as the Mustique Charitable Trust has been able to relocate persons to newly built homes in Orange Hill, Sandy Bay, Cumberland, and other areas.

At a press conference today (May 27), Prime Minister announced that those who have already been allocated homes will receive their deeds free of charge, the Agency for Public Information – API reported.
“Furthermore, new beneficiaries of this program will receive their homes without any payment but will be bound by a covenant restricting the sale of the property for seven years,” Dr. Gonsalves said, according to the API said.

“This initiative is part of our continued commitment to support our citizens who have been adversely affected by natural disasters,” said Prime Minister Gonsalves. “By providing these homes and securing ownership without financial burden, we aim to help these families rebuild their lives and ensure long-term stability in their communities,” Dr. Gonsalves said, according to the API.
“The announcement underscores the government’s dedication to addressing housing needs and fostering community resilience in disaster-affected regions,” the API added.
