Indigenous outdoor food court for North Windward?

This is a One News SVG mini proposal for public discussion. This is part of our thrust to encourage and promote sustainable community tourism.

Madungo Festival is a hit, but imagine multiple buses filled with tourists headed to North Windward just to sample indigenous foods and purchase indigenous art and craft during the cruise season.

Imagine a Cayo village established with multiple huts where people can get madungo and fried fish, cassava pone, sweet potato pudding, cassava bread, plantain cups, barbecue chicken, fried tri tri cakes, pepper pot (soup), drum oven baked bread, and other foods.

There can also be fruit sampling.

Anyone selling food must have a Food Handler’s Certificate, and each hut where food is being prepared must meet public health standards after inspection.

The village can have a cacique and other persons dressed in Indigenous attire who will welcome guests as a way to enhance the overall experience.

One area of the village can have a bar, and there can be a makeshift museum in another area depicting photos, books, artifacts, and other things of interest to the Garifuna community.

There can also be a section where people can purchase local indigenous art and craft.

After patronizing the food huts, visitors can then experience the Owia Salt Pond and other attractions in the area.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Where in North Windward do you think will be a suitable area to establish this outdoor food court? Some options include Rabacca, the old Arrowroot Factory compound at Owia, Sandy Bay, and Orange Hill near the new housing settlement.

Should it be an all-year-round experience or just in the tourist season?

How do you think something like this can benefit members of the community?
