The Social Workers’ Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Inc. (SWASVG Inc.) said it has elected a new seven-member executive to coordinate its affairs for the next two (2) years.

In a May 30 press release, the organisation said the general election took place on the 8th April, 2024.

The Social Workers’ Association said it is a Non- Non-governmental organization whose purpose is to enhance the professional growth, development, and well-being of Social Workers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, through advocacy, networking, and empowerment of its members as well as the populations that they serve, while upholding the Social Work principles and ethics of the profession.

The press release said: Outgoing president Roselle Solomon stated, “Although the association was revamped in 2020, we have faced many challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic and La Soufriere eruption in 2021. We would have collaborated with many stakeholders who provided supplies to vulnerable families. Furthermore, we worked with and offered referrals for services to elderly people who were displaced by the eruption and left without familial care. Our association rallied with Our Lady of Guadeloupe Home for Girls and donated items after their initial home was destroyed by fire. The association unified and offered our services to those affected by these issues”.

In further development of social work in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the current president Lou-Ann Boyde highlighted that “for the future of Social Work in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, the association envisages bringing awareness not just to the micro-practice of the profession (welfarism), but to be integrally involved in aspects of macro-practice that influences policies and laws that would contribute to the holistic well-being of the society”

She further thanked the outgoing executive for their hard work and dedication to the organisation for the past two (2) years; she is inviting all Social Workers to join the Association uniting to enact change and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, the press release added.
