It’s illegal to sell food at Carnival without this

Did you know that handling food for public consumption without obtaining a Food Handler’s Certificate is a breach of the Public Health Act, 1977, and anyone who engages in such a practice is guilty of an offence?

Persons who wish to handle/prepare and sell food for public consumption during the Carnival season must be certified by the Public Health Department.

St. Vincent and the Grenaadines’ National Carnival – Vincymas will commence on Friday, June 28th and end on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024. 

Here is how one can be trained and certified in handling food.

The following is an announcement by the Public Health Department within the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment.

The Public Health Department within the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment will be conducting Food Handlers’ Sessions at the Conference Room of the Public Health Department in Kingstown, on the following dates and times:

• Wednesday 19th June, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Thursday 20th June, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Wednesday 26th June, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Thursday 27th June, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Tuesday 2nd July, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Wednesday 3rd July, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Thursday 4th July, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Friday 5th July, 2024: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

 

This training is undertaken to register and certify food handlers desirous of selling food during the Carnival season and all other food handlers who need to be certified, the Public Health Department said.

Please note that selling food without obtaining a Food Handler’s Certificate is a breach of the Public Health Act, 1977, and anyone who engages in such a practice is guilty of an offence, the Public Health Department said.

The Department is urging people to make a special effort to attend any one of the training sessions and to be on time.
