The preliminary results of the 2024 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) were released by the Ministry of Education showing that the Sugar Mill Academy has taken the top two spots in the exam.

In the results released tonight (June 20), Ethan Kent of the Sugar Mill Academy recorded the highest average score for the 2024 CPEA with  98.6% while Darius Jonathan Humphrey also of the Sugar Mill Academy took the second position.

The third and fourth positions went to the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic School with Evan Eddison Scott placing third, and Rio Ezra Fitzpatrick placing fourth.

The fifth position was taken by Prayash Parida of the Windsor Primary School.

The preliminary results mean that males took the top five positions in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) administered CPEA Assessment in 2024.

Grade 6 students registered for the 2024 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) concluded their final examination on Thursday, May 16th, 2024. Of the 1745 students registered, 1737 wrote the final examination, the Ministry of Education stated in the release.

“Students’ final scores were derived from the aggregate scores of both components of the CPEA.  That is, the External Assessment which consisted of Multiple Choice Tests in Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies and from the School-Based Assessment which comprised a Project, a Writing Portfolio, a Book Report as well as Teacher Tests, Pupil Made Tests and Can-Do-Skills exercises in Mathematics, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies,” the ministry said.

“The preliminary results indicate that the proportion of students who met the prescribed standard was 1523 (87.68%), a slight increase over last year’s 85.17%.  This number includes 730 (84.2%) males and 793 (91.3%) females,” the press release stated.

There are 54 out of 67 schools that recorded a pass rate in excess of 80% in the CPEA.

The CPEA carries two components. There is a School-Based Assessment which carries 200 marks or 40% of the total score and there is an External Assessment which carries 300 marks or 60% of the total score, the Ministry of Education said.

The criterion for determining the required standard is that students must acquire at least 50% of the possible 500 marks, the ministry said in the press release.

The Ministry of Education said it congratulates all students and extends gratitude to the headteachers, teachers, and staff at all schools and other stakeholders for their support of the students.
