Afghanistan are through to the T20 Semifinals after thrilling win in St. Vincent

Afghanistan are through to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Semi-Final after a thrilling win over Bangladesh in St. Vincent.

The match was the final Super 8 match in the World Cup, and it was played at the Arnos Vale Stadium on Monday.

Afghanistan batted first and made 115/5 off 20 overs.

The top scorer for Afghanistan was Rahmanullah Gurbaz who made 43 runs off 55 deliveries and helped to set a firm foundation for the team.

In a rain-affected innings that was reduced by one over, Bangladesh replied with 105 all out from 17.5 overs. They fell short of the revised target (114) by 8 runs.

Bangladesh’s top scorer was opener Litton Das who made 54 of 49 deliveries.

Afghanistan’s bowler Naveen-ul-Haq helped to set up the formidable bowling campaign needed to win the match by taking 4 wickets for 26 runs. The achievement earned him the Man of the Match title.

Afghanistan’s victory came after their upset of Australia on June 22 in St. Vincent. They will now travel to Trinidad.

“The first semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan will start at 8.30 pm local time on Wednesday, June 26, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba,” ESPN reported.

“The second semi-final between India and England will be at 10.30 am Thursday morning, June 27 (local time) at Guyana’s Providence Stadium,” ESPN also reported.
