One person is reportedly dead after Category 4 Hurricane Beryl swept through St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves made the announcement in an address to the nation on Monday night (July 1).
He said the deceased is from the Northern Grenadine island of Bequia.
“We do not as yet know all the details,” but it was reported to NEMO that one person died, Dr. Gonsalves said.
“There may well be more fatalities. We are not yet sure,” the prime minister added.
The identity of the person and the circumstances surrounding his/her death are currently unknown

The Category 4 hurricane passed through the area on July 1, lifting off the roofs of houses and public buildings and threatening coastal communities with dangerous storm surges.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said Union Island in the Southern Grenadines has been devastated with 90 percent of homes damaged or destroyed.
