People running for cover in Canouan as house roofs are blown off by Hurricane Beryl

One News SVG has received multiple reports that the Southern Grenadine island of Canouan is being devastated by Hurricane Beryl.

One of the individuals who messaged One News SVG said she was taking cover in the bathroom of the building in which she lives as the building’s roof has blown off completely.

She said all the roofs in her area are off and many telephone poles are down.

Another individual said he was seeking cover at a neighbour’s house as he lost everything including his house, but at the time One News SVG called him, his neighbour’s house roof was being blown off.

We called another individual and she said she was packing up just in case she had to go to a shelter due to the current conditions.

The problem is that the winds are too strong for people to safely move from one point to another.

Category 4 hurricane Beryl is making landfall in the area, and the Southern Grenadines is being hard hit.

We will bring more updates as they come to hand.
