There are reports that at least one person from Union Island has died in association with the impact of Hurricane Beryl.
Dead is Mr. Philbert Bowens.
According to a close member of his family, Mr. Bowens died while trying to take cover from the storm.
“During the hurricane, he was in his home and was moving from one part of the house to another when a piece galvanize stuck him on his chest area,” a family member told One News SVG.
He was living in Ashton Union Island, the family member confirmed.

Several other people have suffered injuries.
Multiple people on the island including medical professionals confirmed they had to handle numerous head and and body injuries that people suffered during the passage of the hurricane.
Some residents said the death toll is expected to rise.
One News SVG visited the island today and multiple residents spoke about several incidences of storm-related injuries in the area.

One injured person, in a medical emergency, was air-lifted from island today (July 2) via helicopter.
Mr. Bowen’s death is the second reported death associated with the passage of Hurricane Beryl so far.
In an address to the nation on July 1, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves announced that a one death associated with the passage of Beryl was recorded on the Northern Grenadine Island of Bequia.
