With more than 1,400 people in shelters and Southern Grenadines islands destroyed by Hurricane Beryl, the fate of Vincymas is in question.

Vincymas is the name of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Carnival, and it was scheduled to take place this year from June 28 to July 9.

Several events such as Junior Soca Monarch and Junior Panorama have already been postponed due to the passage of the hurricane which struck the nation on July 1.

Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture – Hon. Carlos James told One News SVG that the Cabinet will make a decision today.

“Having visited Union Island and seen the devastation, the furthest thing from my mind is a carnival,” Minister James told One News SVG yesterday while leaving the hurricane-devastated Union Island.

Hoteliers have reported that they have been booked out for the season, and many visitors are currently in the country.

Many people have also been affected by flight cancellations due to the hurricane, but the Argyke International Airport (AIA) was scheduled to reopen today for commercial flights.

All the airports in the Grenadines are currently closed and only operational for military and humanitarian services.

Minister James is expected to make a post-cabinet announcement later today (July 3).
