The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Electricity Services Limited – VINLEC said it has waived June 2024 bills for customers in Canouan, Mayreau and Union Island.
The State-owned company which is the sole commercial supplier of electricity said that all bills for the month of June, due in July, will be waived. This decision comes in response to the devastation caused by the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
“VINLEC appreciates the patience and understanding shown by customers as we navigate the recovery process,” the company said.
VINLEC said regular updates regarding restoration, billing and other pertinent information will be communicated to ensure all customers remain informed.

The islands of the Southern Grenadines were devastated by Hurricane Beryl on June 1 which struck as a Category 4 cyclone.
The hurricane left a trail of destruction with 95 percent of house roofs damaged or destroyed and some buildings completely decimated. Downed poles and power lines are among the materials that have littered the streets, and it is estimated that electricity will not be fully restored on the affected islands within months.
Many people from the Southern Grenadines have sought refuge on mainland, St. Vincent, and are in shelters. Many of them lost everything.
On the mainland, the electricity infrastructure was also affected by downed power lines and poles, but electricity has been restored in most areas.
Meanwhile, the company has urged people not to destroy its infrastructure.
