Shafiqua Maloney advances to 800-metre Olympics semi-finals

Vincentian athlete Shafiqua Maloney has advanced to the semi-finals of the Women’s 800-meter race in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In Heat 5 of a Round One race, Maloney clocked a time of 1:58.23, placing third and setting a new national record.

She was just behind Kenya’s Mary Moraa who clocked a time of 1:57.95 and Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma who clocked a time of 1:57.90.

The race was run at the Stade de France on Friday.

Also qualifying for the women’s 800-meter semi-finals from the Caribbean is Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin. She ran in Heat 6 in a time of 1:58.66.

The women’s 800-metre semi-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 2:35 p.m. SVG time.
